Description
An above ground tomb with lion's feet, and an empty urn. Inscription on tomb reads: "SACRED / TO THE MEMORY OF / WILLIAM COWELL ESQ. / LATE OF THE BENGAL / CIVIL SERVICE / WHO DEPARTED THIS / ON THE 21ST OF MAY 1857 / AGED 77 YEARS / ALSO OF ELIZA ..." Grey watercolour of obelisk, mausoleum and other cemetary monuments in background. Signed and titled bottom of drawing. Mounted on board. Study for painting "Kensal Green Cemetery" (1960) held by London Museum.
